Vice President Ada Fennell's Letter to the Editor of the Miami Herald

In response to the slanted coverage of our August 2 Candidate Forum, Ada Fennell wrote this Letter to the Editor:

Lately, Republicans accuse mainstream media of being “fake news.” Your coverage of the 2018 Republican Candidate Forum hosted by the Federated Republican Women of North Dade earned that moniker.

The article oversimplified Adam Putnam’s speech, the last ten minutes of the program, stating, “Putnam also railed against the media, very few of whom attended the event.” Aside from the Herald, in attendance were camera crews from almost every major television network in English and Spanish, specifically, CBS 4, WSVN 7, WPLG 10, Telemundo, and Univision.

Purporting to be a member of our group, someone delivered a profane quote regarding candidate Ron DeSantis, enabling the writer to depict our group as uneducated, fearful of competition, and disorganized. Meanwhile, fifteen of our candidates present faced their rivals, sharing the same room in harmony. A dozen of Hialeah’s Finest served as security and crowd control.

The writer exaggerated references to our President and the presence of “Red hats bearing the MAGA slogan,” to the point where even patriotic and GOP merchandise was branded, “Trump-themed.” Your credibility as a news source was damaged by the inaccuracy of this article. This is the kind of reporting that sends Republicans to Twitter for real news.
