Monica Colucci is a longtime resident of School Board District 8 and an elementary school teacher for over twenty-six years in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. In 2001, Mrs. Colucci was awarded Teacher of the Year at Everglades K-8 Center. As an educator and daughter of a Cuban immigrant, Mrs. Colucci was inspired to run for public office to serve as a strong- advocate for parental rights and t top-quality education for children. A woman of faith, Mrs. Colucci believes strongly in each student's God-given potential.
Mrs. Colucci' s educational background is extensive. She graduated from Saint Brendan Catholic High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Florida Intenational University (FIU) in 1994. Also at FIU, in 1998 she earned a Master of Science and Educational Leadership degree. Mrs. Colucci served at the University of Miami as a consultant Within the "Science For All" Program from 2000 to 2005. In her consulting role, she wrote curriculum, trained teachers, and presented at symposiums.
From February 2019 until August 2020, Mrs. Colucci worked in the Executive Office of Governor Ron DeSantis, serving as the Special Assistant to Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez and South Florida Regional Representative.
Mrs. Colucci is a proud mother, wife, and daughter. She is married to Eudaldo "Eddie" Lopez, her husband of 25 years. They are parents to their daughter, Gabriela, who currently attends the University of Miami.
Elected on August 23, 2022 to the Miami-Dade County School Board in District 8, Mrs. Colucci aspires to return the focus of schools back to basics and supports furthering civics in our classroom.
